Free LEGAL production music

You wouldn't want someone to take something you've created with all of your time and talents and use it without your permission, right? You also don't want to get fined or go to jail for stealing someone else's music, BUT you want a killer track for that new video you're making.

There are talented people who will let you use their music for FREE! Usually all they want in return is credit. It's the joy of the Creative Commons License.

Here are a few of my top choices for free and legal production music. Be sure to read the license at each site and follow the creator's credit requirements. If you use a LOT of their music, throw them a donation.

Scott Buckley is another creative commons contributor. Scott explicitly allows free commercial use of his music as long as the license requirements are followed, and they're pretty easy. Scott also has a non-credited license available for projects that don't lend themselves to crediting the creator.

Incompetech: Be careful what you click on because some of the ads on the site look like navigation buttons. Other than that, this looks like a great source for free production music. Kevin has minimal requirements for crediting him and has a license purchase option if you're creating a work that doesn't allow for crediting him. Choices. Nice.

I've used a LOT of music from Audionautix over the years and thrown Jason a donation or two to express my gratitude for his talents. I love the search check boxes that allow for easily digging down to the kind of music I'm looking for.

There isn't a pay option for not crediting Jason but he does provide a pre-signed release form if you need one for your project.
