ABOUT

Laurinburg Karate Club - Taekwon-Do was formed in 1972 by Mike Durkin. There was no Taekwon-Do school or club in the area at that time and he wanted to gather people with whom he could train. Mr. Duking continued to train under his Master Instructor as he, himself trained new members.
Master Durkin continued to train students for more than 40 years, rarely missing a meeting. Hundreds of black belts received training and many moved on to begin schools of their own.
Master Durkin passed away in January of 2016. Michael Litty, assumed responsibility for the club and continues to lead, following the traditions and upholding the values Master Durkin instilled in his students for generations.

In December, 2016, the club name was changed to Laurinburg Taekwon-do Club. We continue to teach with an emphasis on tradition, respect, and character., accepting students 8 to 80 years old at any level of skill or ability.

In addition to learning a martial art, it is our goal that our students grow in confidence, discipline, focus, strength and character. This is the tradition handed down by Master Durkin as outlined by the father of modern taekwon-do, General Choi Hong Hi.
